A Women’s Studies professor at the University of California, Davis, thinks science is racist.
Sara Giordano, a former neuroscientist who is now a Women’s Studies professor, wrote in a paper that “traditional science” is grounded in racism – and should go the way of the dinosaur.
Science “earned its epistemic authority through its co-constitution with colonization and slavery,” she wrote. As a result, it “relies on a colonial and racialized form of power.”
“At the root of the justification for social inequality then is Western science,” she added.
Giordano argues academia should replace science with an “anti-science, anti-racist, feminist approach to knowledge production.”
Giordano doesn’t entirely explain what “feminist anti-science” looks like, but she does hope that feminists will work together to destroy the “assumption” that “science = truth.” And she hopes that, ultimately, “feminist science… explicitly unsticks science from [the] sic truth.”
So much for liberals embracing science.
